Cormorant perched on one of the high wires carrying power cables across the River Severn at Diglis, Worcester, leisurely preening its feathers.

Violets at different spots by the towpath between Newbridge and the Water Bridge flowering earlier this month. To me the flowers looked more pink than purple, but perhaps not quite as much as in these pictures.

Bluetit busily eating pollen on a pussy willow. As it flitted from catkin to catkin, it was so intent on what it was doing that it ignored me snapping away only a few yards distant.

Lesser celandines, one patch not in flower yet, at different points along the canal towpath in the Wightwick / Castlecroft areas.

A cultivated variety of wood anemones – wild ones have a smaller, white flower. These were growing in College Close by Worcester Cathedral.

These collared earth stars probably first emerged early in the winter. As of mid-March they still only looked a little the worse for wear.
