Pair of ladybirds on a ribes leaf, mating. The position they chose turned out to be precarious – they end up almost falling off their leaf.

Greylag goose goslings, one of the trio much larger than its siblings, still thriving. This time they were eating on a patch of short grass, with both parent birds on the lookout for any threats.

Garden poppies in flower, a couple of them yellow, one a less commonly encountered orange.

Coot chick swimming on the Birmingham Canal, persistently calling for food then being fed by a parent bird. I didn’t see any sign of other young birds or another adult. Indeed, I went most of the length of the 21 locks section of the canal, and didn’t notice many other coots at all.
