Not exactly cute little piggies
Mangalitza pigs, woolly and apparently not bred for their cuteness. Originally Hungarian, they supposedly have a distinctive dark meat which has recently become a favourite of some foodies.
These characterful animals were among the traditional breeds of livestock on Mary Arden’s Farm at Wilmcote.
Open-a**e, or more politely medlar fruit. The vulgar version of the name was used by Chaucer and Shakespeare in their writings.
Stratford on Avon, and once again the tourists pausing from feeding swans as they went off for their own lunches. Another group of swans circling, this time swimming on the river as they wait watching for someone with food. This time the group included young as well as mature birds.
The orchard at Anne Hathaway’s cottage, Shottery, has a set of apple trees with different varieties of the fruit. Here is a sample as they were reaching ripeness earlier this month.
The River Avon at Stratford has a large population of resident swans, supported by the tourists who feed them. This was lunchtime, and the tourists had perhaps gone off to feed themselves. A large group of swans had come on land, and were in a circle, eating the short grass of the riverside Nine Men’s Morris.
