Twisty or strongly patterned trunks, or roots grasping grimly onto bare rock drew my attention to these trees, all growing just a few minutes walk uphill from Great Malvern.

Vale of Evesham, misty autumn morning
Views across the Vale of Evesham on a misty morning earlier this month. Looking out from the Malvern Hills, just a few minutes walk above Great Malvern. Across on the other side of the Severn / Avon valley, Bredon Hill is the most prominent of the features rising through the mist. Further away, the main scarp slope of the Cotswolds was a ghostly presence.
