Outside the breeding season, herons in close proximity seem to spend their time ignoring the other’s presence. Just before Christmas, these two on West Park’s boating lake island – one adult bird, the other immature – spent some time staring at each other.

Finally got around to visiting the Butterfly Farm at Stratford on Avon recently, and was stunned by everything there was to see there. The main area has a wealth of tropical butterflies flying free – pictures to come.

But also worth looking out for on a visit is the Minibeast Metropolis – vivariums with various vertebrates and invertebrates. Today’s posts, reptiles from that room, here a skink staring back at me.
