Two types of damselfly, Compton Park pool

Large red damselfly

Large red damselfly and a common blue damselfly, both seen resting on bulrush leaves at the edge of Compton park pool on the same day. Both insects are males.

When I saw them, there were perhaps half a dozen of the blues flying around, but just the one red pictured here.

Heron by the canal

Seen on the same walk along the canal. One heron taking off and heading for the Smestow after a dog got too close. Further along, at Castlecroft, another heron lands on the towpath, then takes up position watching the water for prey.
