Yet more to look out for this autumn: orange peel fungus does indeed look rather like discarded scraps of orange peel at first glance.

Another red squirrel nonchalantly nibbling a nut, ignoring the people watching it. This one was in Munich’s Englischer Garten.

More mushrooms to look out for in the autumn flush: fairies bonnets inkcaps emerge in all but the coldest months. Less than an inch tall, but crowded together in a tight cluster.

When I wad writing yesterday’s post, it reminded me I also had another couple of sets of pictures of red squirrels I’d never got round to posting. This cute individual, with its nut, was in the grounds of the Alhambra in Granada, Spain. It was obviously used to, and relaxed about, being an additional attraction for some of the crowds of tourists coming to see the palace / fortress.

More fungi to look out for during the main autumn season. This trio of tiny puffballs were growing in short grass in West Park a few years ago.

Red squirrel rushing around among fallen leaves. Not a sight possible anywhere on the English mainland. This one was in the grounds of the Charlottenburg Palace in the suburbs of Berlin.
