Trees of the maple family originating outside Europe have leaves which turn much more vivid colours before they drop in autumn. West Park has been planted with a range of varieties of Japanese acer, with different shades of leaf, last month while they were still on the trees.

Autumn fungi: false saffron milk cap

False saffron milk cap mushroom: found in association with conifers from high summer to autumn. Milk caps are a group of mushrooms which give out a fluid with a milky consistency when injured, white in some species, but orange in this one. Orange coloured, soon turning green or blue.
