Autumn fungi: wood blewits

A fungus around in the autumn and winter: wood blewits are a pale violet colour (possibly exaggerated somewhat in these pictures) only for a short time after they emerge. These were growing under the hedge by the canal towpath in Castlecroft.

Deceivers can be found at any time from early summer to late autumn, common in woodland, and sometimes (as here) on wood chipping mulch in more open areas. “Deceptive” in that they are very variable in appearance.

Funnelcap with crinkly edge

Funnelcap (clitocybe species) mushroom, one of a group growing under trees near the path by the Severn at Bridgnorth. This one attracted my attention with crinkly edge to its cap.
