One of the West Park cygnets preening, perhaps working to remove the grey down feathers to reveal the white adult plumage growing below.

Distinctive colour of these purple beautyberries on a bush in West Park makes them stand out in contrast with the more usual shades of autumn.

These mushrooms, forming a fairy ring on a front lawn, were just a little too far for a definite identification. But they were probably snowy waxcaps.

Stand for just a few seconds on the shore of the West Park boating lake, and a crowd of waterfowl will converge, hoping for free food. These were stragglers, separated enough from the mass to get individual portraits.

The same set of West Park puddles which attracted the moorhens featured yesterday, also proving a draw for one of the resident magpies.
