Common darters, Wightwick Manor pond

Common darter, Wightwick Manor pond

Heritage Open Day at Wightwick Manor, the ponds with a population of male common darter dragonflies in double figures. They were spending most of their time flying, defending their territory of a stretch of shoreline and the adjoining water. Occasionally, one or another would be easier to view as they paused to rest on a leaf, like the tow which feature in this set.
