Flowers on a female yew tree by the lake in West Park. These were out by mid-January.

Moss on the top of a stone wall. Frosted after a cold night, with the ice crystals already melting in the bright morning sun.

Tightly pressed clump of puffball fungi. These were growing by the footpath along the Penk at Perton.

Robin perched on the top of a sapling, balancing on one foot as the other leg is pressed against its chest.

Lichens on the Barley Field blackthorns; the twigs and the lichens lightly frosted early one morning.

Canada geese on West Park lake – despite the thick mist, they had spotted someone scattering a handful of grain by one of the paths.

They took off in some numbers, rushing to get to the grain first. A flock of pigeons were nearer, and beat the geese. But there was still plenty to eat when they did land.
