Ferruginous duck, boating lake, West Park

Ferruginous duck, boating lake, West Park

Male ferruginous duck which has been on the West Park boating lake, on an off, since last Thursday. Seen here yesterday.

It’s hanging out with the tufties. While I was there, it spent most of the time hiding behind the board around the island. Emerged briefly to display to one of the (male) tufties it is hanging round with, and to preen.

Crowned earthstars, last view

Crowned earthstars by the canal at Newbridge. A last view at the end of January, the fungi looking worse for wear. The next time I was down that way, there were no signs they had been there.
