Thick-legged flower beetles, male, fighting

Three male thick-legged flower beetles on the same umbellifer flower head. As I took the pictures, two of the mailes had a fight to decide which should get access to the choice flowers, then both set about eating.

Flocks of goslings, Broad Street Basin

Flocks of goslings

Two flocks of goslings by the lock keeper’s cottage at Broad Street Basin. At least twenty in each of the groups.

Both sets well grown, but the first still in their juvenile down, now very scruffy looking. The second group feathered, actually looked like adults from a distance, and like half-size scale model adults at a closer view.

Each of the neighbouring flocks was being shepherded by four adult Canada geese.
