I don’t know how they fold their wings like that, but this is a common plume moth.
I disturbed it, as it was inconspicuously holed up for the day on my bike. It fluttered, only for a short distance, and landed on the top of a garden fence.

One last set of pictures from the garden of Moseley Old Hall, seen on Heritage Open Day last month. One colourful spot despite the time of year was a border of annual clary, bright in its various shades.
