Blue alkanet flowers are tiny, but this bumble bee seemed like it was trying to submerge itself in the flower to get at the riches buries in it.

Sloes, just starting to ripen, and changing colour to mark this process. These were on one of the bushes in the blackthorn hedge on the Barley Field.

Two herons standing on the same fallen willow on one of the West Park islands, preening. They may have only been yards apart, and with nothing to block their views of the other. But, as seems to happen often with herons, they were carefully looking in directions where they could ignorge one another.

Ox-eye daisies growing tall. These were among the wetland vegetation by the Compton Park pond.

Chafer, possibly a common chafer or a Welsh chafer, resting on a nettle leaf.

I don’t know which of the many types of umbellifer this was. Bit the dark purple of the stem and the protective leaves surrounding the flowers, just about to open, was distinctive.
