Retreating magpie
Scruffy magpie which would have preferred more anonymity, and strolled in a dignified retreat from my intrusive lens.
Ripening rosehips
Way back towards the end of August, these rosehips were already ripening fast.
Giant puffball, college grounds
Passing along the pavement outside the Paget Road site of Wolverhampton College a few days ago, it would be easy to mistake this giant puffball for a half-deflated football. Some kind of small creature had not made that mistake, and had a good go at eating it.
Knopper gall, Barley Field oak tree
A gall from a knopper wasp, one of the various types which are found on oak trees, usually towards autumn. This was on a tree on the steep northern bank of the Barley Field.
Heron fishing by the shore, West Park
Heron on one of the islands in the West Park lake, fishing. It was too far away to see what it was managing to catch.
Two other herons were also loitering in the vicinity, looking on suspiciously.
These pictures have been hanging fire since late August. But when I visited the park a few days ago, a heron was showing on the same stretch of shoreline.
