A paperbark maple in Bantock Park. As I walked into the park one morning, the sun was directly behind the tree, backlighting the peeling bark.

A green shield bug, taking time out to rest on the fencing of the outdoor area of the Two Greens pub, Tettenhall (formerly the Rock).

On the West Park lake, two swans with their heads down, busy feeding. Framed between them, on the shore, a magpie also eating.

A chocolate mining bee on a leaf, not exactly resting, because it kept moving around. It doesn’t actually go mining for chocolate.

The map turtle living in the lake at West Park, once again out sunning itself on the fallen bough it likes to use to perch on and pose.

Chicken of the woods, a bracket fungus, and with a reputation as good to eat. This one was growing at the base of one of the trees in Bantock Park. There’s no point in rushing out to try to harvest it. The pictures were taken last month, and it’s quite likely someone recognised and gathered it that same day.
