Frozen West Park lake and island

Frozen West Park lake and island

The smaller eastern section of the lake in West Park is always the first part to freeze over. This picture was taken ten days ago, when the ice was so thin that even the water birds seemed to be avoiding standing on it.

Geese feeding near the West Park bandstand

The canada geese in West Park were not happy that the ground had frozen. A large section of the flock had come up near the bandstand to prospect the soil for something to eat.

Canal wharf, Broad Street

Canal wharf, Broad Street

The canal wharf next to the British Waterways warehouse on Broad Street (the once and future Canal Club).

The wharf points directly at Wolverhampton (High Level) railway station; the most recent building on the station can be seen in the background.

Apparently the wharf follows the original line of the canal, which was re-routed when the railway came to Wolverhampton.

Duck in a cold canal

Duck in a cold canal

The canal banks were white with frost, which seemed to be covering the back of this duck as well.
