This pine cone had presumably been lying on the ground for some time in Beckbury churchyard, then disturbed to part-reveal the side which had been towards the ground.

The leaves of this thistle were covered with a downy growth which looked like downy fur. I think the brownish speckles were at the base of the long thorns.

Possibly killed by one of the neighbourhood cats, although there were no obvious signs of violence.
