This single flower was growing some way down a steep slope on the Cotwall End LNR. If it was descended from a garden flower, it must have travelled some considerable distance.

Growing by a hedge a few days ago.

The plant was among the vegetation growing overhanging the Staffs & Worcs canal.

Caught at the stage where the top of the plant looks like an elaborate crozier.

It wasn’t possible to move in for a close-up: these plants were in one of the fenced-off beds under trees in West Park.

The grey and yellow lichens were so closely intertwined they almost seemed to be growing on each other.
