Water forget-me-nots, growing by a pool in the garden at Wightwick Manor.

Another of the rare breeds stock at Northycote Farm; this time a hen (cock?) with a comb which seems to be covering its eyes.

A delicate green marks out the pattern on the paler variant of snake’s head fritillaries. Compare with the other type growing nearby.

A large, open nest high up in the tree tops. I thought I saw, out of the corner of my eye, a buzzard rising from it.

Female (above) and male (below) mallards on the canal near Compton. The pair swam towards me, probably hoping to be fed.

The colour is often described as purple – top my eyes it is as much reddish.
