Half-grown goslings, West Park

Goslings ashore, West Park

This summer two pairs of the greylag geese on the lake at West Park have been raising goslings.

Today’s posts will feature both broods in pictures which were taken on the same day in June.

Here, for starters, is the older set of chicks on the lake with their parents.

Recent goslings, West Park

The adult greylags with the younger chicks came across the water only shortly after the pair with the older chicks.

Goslings ashore, West Park

To my surprise, both sets of greylag geese in the posts above led their goslings to a place where there was vegetation growing right at the edge of the lake.

Both sets of chicks scrambled out of the water: the more recently hatched with some difficulty. They all then started to look for something to eat.

It’s been over a month since I took these pictures. All the birds still seem to be thriving.
