More orchids from Sandwell Valley Country Park – these were growing in wildflower meadows only a short walk from the new and impressive looking RSPB Visitor Centre.

Common blue damsel flies on a leaf, mating
A pair of common blue damsel flies resting on a pondside leaf as they mated, their abdomens forming a contorted heart shape. The male is predominantly blue in colour, the female green.
A series of posts today of damsel flies from the Packhorse Bridge nature reserve, on the River Blythe at Hampton in Arden. Most of them on the day I went were common blue damsel flies. Here is a male at rest, showing the characteristic blue abdomen with black stripes.
