The berries in this sloe hedge were rapidly ripening earlier this month.

In the picture below a shield beetle can be seen resting on one of the berries.

In the middle of August, a nightshade plant which was still flowering.

Some of the berries on the plant were beginning to ripen.

Others seemed to be about half ripe.

Yet others were beginning to approach the bright red colour which is the mark of fully ripe berries.
