Great spotted woodpecker up high in one of the beeches, in West Park, feeding on insects. Greater spotted and green woodpeckers are the ones most likely to be seen around here.

Autumn colour: backlit mulberry leaf
One of the leaves of the mulberry tree at the front of the Dirty Duck in Stratford on Avon. The sun, shining on the far side of the leaf, casting a shadow of a twig.
One of the seed-heads of a clump of pampas grass growing in the garden of Lavington’s Hole in Bridgnorth’s Low Town. The sandstone cliff which has the cave forms the background.
Small yellow mushrooms barely rising above the rain-soaked grass of lawns in front gardens recently. Two different species of mushrooms, neither identified.

Heard but not seen one or more of the Wolverhampton ring-necked parakeets recently. Then, yesterday, a definite sighting.
The bird pictured in this set flew across the canal at tree-top level. It came, perhaps, from Newbridge wood, and landed it the top of a tall canalside tree in Crowther Road wood. It then started making the loud parakeet squawks for about a minute.
It became apparent that these noises were directed at a buzzard which was also perched nearby, when the birds both took off flying towards Newbridge, the parakeet chasing the buzzard.
