Flies on ivy leaves
A patch of ivy by the canal towpath at Compton was attracting flies resting the the morning sunlight at the end of last month.
Small stagshorn, a fungus commonly found growing on dead wood. This one was one of the many fungi in the Woodland Trust’s Himley Plantation.

Winter: mahonia flowering, West Park
A touch of winter colour, and a source of pollen for any insects around on warmer days, mahonia in flower. These were on one of the mahonia bushes in West Park.
One of the clearings in Himley Plantation has several fallen tree trunks which support a variety of different species of fungi. A robin has this clearing as its territory. When I’ve been photographing the fungi, the bird keeps coming near, ignoring my presence.
