Common yellow russulas, Himley plantation

Common yellow russulas, Himley plantation

Russulas, sometimes called brittlegills, are a genera of mushrooms many of which are fairly large and strongly coloured. Common yellow russulas are indeed one of the commoner species of this genera. Their pale yellow colour means they are not always easy to spot among the leaf litter of deciduous woods in autumn, where the fruiting bodies can be found.
