Wood blewit mushroom growing on the lawn in front of the Lavington’s Hole section of the cliff at Underhill, Bridgnorth, recently.

The fungus was already beginning to lose the delicate lilac colour, which turns brownish, starting, as here, from the centre.

This is originally an Australian fungus, uncommon there. It was first reported in Britain in 1960, in Somerset, then subsequently mainly in southern England. It’s spreading through England carried by wood mulch.
