There’ve been very few butterflies so far this spring. This is only the second one I’ve seen – the other was also a comma.
This one landed on a garden wall a few yards ahead of where I was walking, and spread its wings to warm itself.
A tiny nest high in one of the trees in Bantock Park. The owner must be a similarly small bird: perhaps a wren or a goldcrest.
Another magpie busily searching in the short grass of West Park for things to eat, unperturbed that I was nearby and watching it.
A tree in full flower in the hedge of the field opposite Wightwick Mill lock. It’s a cherry-plum, or possibly a wild cherry.
A recent arrival on the lake at West Park, although I have a vague idea it may have put in a previous appearance. It’s part mallard. I’m less sure of the other component of its parentage. An Aylesbury?
