Coot and chick on nest of tangled twigs

Coot and chick on nest of tangled twigs

It seems to be shaping up as a good breeding year for coots and moorhens. This coots’ nest in a tangle of twigs held at least two hard to spot chicks. There must have been a different nest, and another pair of coots also having young chicks very close by, on the so-called Bird Island on the Avon between the Tramway and Clopton Bridges at Stratford at the end of last month.
